Earlier today I saw this excellent film starring Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunawaye who play two alcoholics who meet in their favorite watering hole one night. Henry (Rourke) takes an immediate interest in Wanda (Dunaway) and they start a chat. They have a fantastic dynamic, they’re truly wonderful together, this sad couple. The movie isn’t just you watching two individuals destroy themselves with booze, there’s a lot of humour involved, too. Henry is a writer of short stories, and a talented one at that, when he’s not intoxicated, and another woman enters the picture, a literary agent whose discovered his work. So, can Henry take this chance to make a better future for himself?
The screenplay was written by Charles Bukowski and it’s autobiographical in nature. The acting by the leads and the supporting cast was excellent.
